Solana goes down...... AGAIN!!
Solana network once again went down for more than 6 hours owing to a bug that was reported by the team on their Twitter here is quick detail on what happened and how Solana is going to fix it.
First, let’s understand what caused the blockchain to stop working:
Durable transaction nonces are a mechanism for getting around the typical short lifetime of a transaction's recent_blockhash
.
To fix the issue engineers proposed to disable the durable transaction nonces till a patch is released.
On the bright side, the Network state remained secure along with the funds. Validator operators coordinated a restart from the highest confirmed block.
The Blockchain is operational now but this outage highlights a grave issue that Solana has been facing for a while now, the outages are increasing as the blockchain grows which is heavily affecting public sentiment on the blockchain.
Back in September, Solana experienced a similar outage due to “resource exhaustion” that caused a denial of service across the network.
In January, the network again experienced a major slowdown from an influx of “high compute transactions,” causing many others to fail. Even last month, millions of NFT transactions caused the network to clog and go down again.
Bugs and Outages are part of the blockchain space how the team handles these and the economic effect of these outages needs to stay minimum for SOL to survive the upcoming bear market in cryptocurrencies.
