Cryptocurrency prices today: Market Falls As Bitcoin, Ethereum & Other Cryptos Retreat
On December 28, 2022, the cryptocurrency market saw a decline. The majority of cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and others, were trading in the negative.
The market cap decreased 1.52 percent to $799.37 billion. However, over the past 24 hours, the market's volume climbed by 24.76% to $29.59 billion.
The biggest and most well-known digital token in the world is currently trading more than 1% lower at $16,647 as the price of bitcoin continues to fall. The market capitalization of all cryptocurrencies worldwide today was $839 billion, down from $1 trillion over the previous day.
The second-largest cryptocurrency, Ethereum, was down about 2% at $1,197. While its price dropped all day, Ethereum traded in the red. In the previous day, it decreased from $1,208 to $1,197. Its 24-hour trading volume increased by 23.35 per cent to $4,492,324,742
Shiba Inu was down 2% at $0.000008 while Dogecoin was trading nearly 4% down at $0.07 today.
In a cyberattack, BTC.com lost cryptocurrency worth $3 million.
One of the biggest cryptocurrency mining pools in the world, BTC.com, reported becoming the victim of a hack that resulted in the theft of about $3 million worth of cryptocurrency assets belonging to both the company and its clients.
With 2.66% of the network's total hashrate, BTC.com is the seventh-largest cryptocurrency mining pool, according to its mining pool tracker.
In a press release, BTC.com stated that around $700,000 worth of crypto owned by its clients and $2.3 million in digital assets owned by the company were stolen in the attack.
"In the cyberattack, certain digital assets were stolen, including approximately US$700,000 in asset value owned by BTC.com's clients, and approximately US$2.3 million in asset value owned by the Company," BTC.com revealed.
Government to launch an awareness campaign for cryptocurrencies and online gaming.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs announced a crypto awareness campaign in the midst of the decline of popular cryptocurrencies and the erratic market.
According to a government official, the government has plans to start an awareness campaign regarding issues with cryptocurrency and online gambling. The information emphasised even more how important it is to remind individuals of the dangers of investing in cryptocurrencies. The Investor Protection and Education Fund (IPEF), a division of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, will begin an outreach effort on this occasion.
